Macedonia seems to have a love-hate relationship with Greece with whom it shares its southern border. Skopje is such an unusual city. A real surprise. Despite having read about it before the trip it was still amazing to see what they have created in the city centre. The central area is packed with loads of huge statues, fountains and monuments plus grand neo-classical buildings – celebrating thousands of years of Macedonian history. Skopje, MACEDONIA

Arrived in Skopje at midnight after our delayed flight navigated it’s way around some local thunderstorms. Skopje International Airport is also known as Alexander the Great Airport – after their national hero. It feels very humid. Just hoping the storms clear through by the morning.
